Former Ulster forward Duane Vermeulen has called time on his rugby career after helping the Springboks to back-to-back World Cup titles.

The South African, who played in the back row, won 76 caps in an 11-year national team career.

The 37-year-old played 34 times for Ulster across two seasons after joining in 2021.

Vermeulen has been linked with a move into coaching and did not discount it.

“If you had asked me this a couple of years ago, I would probably have said no,” he said recently. “But when you finish (your playing career) you want to give back to the younger guys.”
