I’ve noted before that there are times in this place when you feel like you’re living in an episode of Father Ted. A recent example comes from a Belfast City Council discussion over whether or not a small community festival in the Wedderburn area of Finaghy should get the go-ahead to use a local council-run park.

Permission has now been granted despite concerns raised by SDLP councillor Donal Lyons. In a particularly Ted-esque moment, Cllr Lyons cited “people drinking and carrying on and various other things”.
