Dungannon Swifts won’t fear anyone if we make European Play-Offs, insists Dean Curry

Dean Curry is hoping Dungannon Swifts can burst Carrick Rangers’ bubble and snatch a European Play-Off spot.

The Swifts can finish seventh in the Premiership if they beat Ballymena United at Stangmore Park and the Gers taste defeat at Glenavon.

Dungannon have put forward Cliftonville’s Solitude rather than Stangmore Park as their venue for European games should they seal continental action. But Rodney McAree’s men need a favour from the Lurgan Blues to have any chance of sealing a Play-Off Semi-Final at Crusaders.

“European football would be great for the club and we don’t fear anyone if we get that opportunity in the Play-Offs,” said defender Curry.

“The only team we haven’t beaten is Larne. We do perform well against the big boys.

“It could be an interesting end and it’s great to have something to play for but it is in Carrick’s hands.

“We just have to try to finish the season strongly and we have been in good form, winning four in a row.

“We must look after ourselves and never mind what is going on in Lurgan.

“We have to do our job and finish with a win. Football is a crazy game and anything can happen.”

Former Institute defender Curry headed home a winner at Windsor Park in January to secure a famous first League victory for the club at the international venue.

The Swifts have won their last three League fixtures 2-0 and Curry has been thrilled with his side’s rearguard action.

“I think we took more points off the top six than the bottom six before the split and we wanted to raise our performance levels which we have done,” added the 29-year-old.

“The three clean sheets have been brilliant.

“Ballymena have been in good form and they are a good side.

“Jim (Ervin) is learning on the job and every match in this League is a tough test.

“When we went to Ballymena just after Christmas, they could have closed the gap to us but we kicked on and have been excellent this year.

“The League is getting tougher and that’s great for the country.”

The final round of fixtures kick off at 5.30pm.
