A 31-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly smashing two windows with his fists before pushing a police officer down a set of steps during an incident in Co Antrim.

Officers investigating a report of criminal damage in the Glenshesk Drive area of Ballymena on Wednesday, located a man to the rear of the property where he appeared to have smashed two windows with his fists.

After being spoken to, he was arrested for criminal damage but became violent and resisted arrest, said a spokesperson for the PSNI.

The male allegedly pushed one officer down a set of steps, attempted to bite another and hit a third officer on the face.

He was then further arrested for assault on police and resisting arrest.

“Luckily, the responding officers did not sustain any injuries and were able to remain on duty,” said the PSNI.

“The man currently remains in custody at this time, helping with police enquiries.”
