Teaching union calls for action after startling figures revealed
The number of pupils suspended from school in Northern Ireland has topped 5,000 for the first time, with the rise in the number of serious assaults on teachers prompting a call for action from teaching unions.
Figures for the 2022/23 academic year show that 5,129 pupils were handed a suspension from school, almost 1,600 more than the number of suspensions 10 years ago.
