Kyren Wilson wins his first World Snooker Championship after final victory over Jak Jones

England's Kyren Wilson in action during the World Snooker Championship final against Jak Jones at the The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

A tearful Kyren Wilson survived nerves and an epic comeback from Welshman Jak Jones to secure his first World Snooker title at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.

Wilson raced into a 7-0 lead in the first session on Sunday but Jones chipped away at the lead and, as the tension mounted last night, found his form while Wilson’s form deserted him.

The 28th frame looked to have been decisive in the race to 18 when Jones battled all the way back to force a respotted black, but Wilson managed to fluke it to lead 17-11 needing one frame for victory.

However, as he has done throughout the tournament right from the qualifier stage several weeks ago, Jones refused to give up and chipped away at the lead to reduce it to 17-14.

However, a missed double in the 32nd frame handed Wilson the chance and he kept his nerve with a break of 42 to take glory.
