Northern Ireland’s iconic 1982 World Cup captain Martin O’Neill has spoken of the lingering pain he still feels over losing the Republic job as he accepts his managerial days are now over.

The Kilrea man, who was Billy Bingham’s skipper in that legendary side, has been appointed as the Chair of the League Manager Association to succeed Howard Wilkinson, who will be retiring at the end of the 2023/24 season.
