Ethan McIlroy was injured against Munster

Ulster have revealed that full-back Ethan McIlroy sustained a “concussion and facial fracture” in their United Rugby Championship win over Munster at the weekend.

The 23-year-old had to be removed from the game after he was struck in the head by Munster full-back Shane Daly as he dove for the try line midway through the first half, sustaining a significant head injury in the process.

The province confirmed that McIlroy was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital and was treated in their emergency department before being released and returning home.

“The Ulster Rugby Medical team would like to thank their colleagues in the RVH for the excellent care and attention they afforded to Ethan, following his injury,” read Ulster’s statement.

Ulster did not specify how long McIlroy would be sidelined for, with the full-back adding to their injury woes, with Will Addison (hamstring) also unavailable in the back three.

The club did not confirm if any of their other injured players will be returning for this Friday’s clash with the Emirates Lions.
