So, there we have it. Another unsuccessful European season for Ulster, and one of their two routes back into the 2024/25 season’s Champions Cup gone in an embarrassing fashion after their 53-14 Challenge Cup Quarter-Final thrashing at the hands of Clermont.

Few expected them to win in France on Saturday, but few anticipated a 39-point hammering that saw them concede 33 unanswered points in the second half – ironically, exactly the amount of points they put on Montpellier in the second half of their last-16 clash the previous week.
