Falls Road club Immaculata won the McComb Travel Intermediate Cup for the first time in their history thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Amateur League rivals Crumlin Star.

Immaculata goalkeeper Ruairi Murray was the hero at the National Stadium, making several important saves to keep holders Star at bay, even though they held a man advantage for most of the game.

Murray made two further saves in the shoot-out, denying both Kevin Lynch and David Ferrin with impressive stops.

Ex-Linfield man Brian McCaul, former Glenavon star Brendan Shannon, Conor Glenholmes and captain Padraig Adams all converted for the Mac in the 4-3 win. Aidan McNeill, Joe McNeill and Kevin Trainor scored for Star.

While the penalty shoot-out was dramatic, there were no goals in the 110 minutes of action that proceeded it.

The game’s biggest talking point arrived just before half-time when Immaculata’s Gary McVicker received a straight red card for tripping Star’s Joe McNeill as he raced through on goal.

The Mac defender argued that McNeill had handed the ball in the build-up to the foul, but his protests were ignored.

We have a bit of a melee here at the Brandywell - Johnny McMurray and Fintan Doherty pushing and pulling at each other's shirts. Needless. Yellow cards for both men

Stute keeper Fintan Doherty saves a powerful effort from Sean Brown with his feet. Ballymena on top now and pushing hard for a leveller

Huge chance for Ballymena to equalise. A scramble in the box - the ball is begging to be put over the line but young Oisin Devlin clears the danger. It was Noah Stewart with the chance
