He has been charged with historical sex offences, while his wife Eleanor Donaldson has been charged with aiding and abetting.

They both strongly deny the allegations.

DUP interrim leader Gavin Robinson has said that the allegations are “devastating”.

The east Belfast MP, who belongs to the moderate wing of the party, was a close ally to Donaldson.
