A number of fatal shootings have taken place in nationalist areas of the city over the last decade... and many of the victims were known to each other, writes Allison Morris

At first glance they appear isolated acts of criminality, linked only by their savagery. But closer examination of a series of currently unsolved murders in Belfast shows unexpected connections, either through the victims’ association or by the gunman who ended their life.

A number of fatal shootings have occurred in nationalist areas of the city in the last 10 years. While most of those are linked to dissident republicans, some are the result of gangland criminality.
